Sharing
Sharing uses the special channels Blizzard made available for addon specific messages in the standard Guild, Party and Raid communication channel (ie. it doesn't need a private channel or use /tell as a mean of sharing the information).
As of the WoW 2.0 Gatherer version, the database is locale independent, sharing will work
between WoW clients not using the same language.
In order to receive shared information, you must be sharing information (no one way
information flow, if you want to get, you have to give), by default sharing is enabled for Guild.
Options for sharing can be divided in 2 sets (they can be found under the tab labelled "Sharing"
in the configuration panel):
- The first set of options allows you to configure in which cases you want to share things (guild, raid/group, etc.), and thus from which sources you will receive shared information.
- The second set of options deals with announcements of sharing/received node information which will display a message whenever one of these event happens (note: this is not a /tell it's a system message displayed by your local gatherer upon receiving or sending node info).
Note that sharing in this way only occurs while online and is triggered by people recording nodes (by gathering them, or marking them if their skill is too low or they don't have the required gathering skill).
Another method for sharing exists with the Report panel (single target) though that doesn't require active gathering of the nodes.
To share to a single target your whole database, both parties must right click their minimap button to bring up 'Gathrables Report' window. In this window, select the nodes you wish to send, 'Mark these' inherently marks all nodes of the sender. One then types in the name to send the data to, then click 'Send these.' Following this, the recipient will be asked if he would like to receive these nodes. Upon conformation, the sharing will begin. If the window is closed before the transfer is complete, the process will be interrupted and should be restarted. Remember, both parties must have a recent version of Gatherer.
